Time well spent

Time Well Spent

For some of us, happiness is the ultimate goal in life.  We want a life of meaning and purpose, not one where we just get by.  However, the way to achieve lasting happiness is not always apparent.

When did you last tell your family and friends that you loved them?  No matter the answer, do it today.

It isn’t always easy for us to be so vulnerable and to express those feelings, but I’m striving to overcome those hurdles.  Listen to them.  Talk to them.  Find some time to just hang out with them.

That time spent shows how much you care.  Out of all the things to do on your schedule, you’ve set aside time to connect with them.  And if you go beyond that through great conversation, that says even more.  Our actions speak louder than our words.

Using our time to connect with those we love will provide us with true happiness.  The more we do it, the happier we’ll be.

How much time do you have?

  • Do you have 5 minutes?  Reach out to them with an email or text.  It doesn’t take a long time to send a message to someone you care about to ask how they are.  That small gesture could go a long way.

  • Do you have 15 minutes?  Call them.  A phone call is an easy way to connect with someone without the need for travel.

  • Do you have 30 minutes?  This may not be an everyday event, but taking 30 minutes to drop in on someone you love will be some of the best utilization of your time this week.

  • Do you have more than an hour?  Fantastic!  Go and enjoy a good meal with a friend or loved one.  Who among us doesn’t have a few hours of free time each month?

  • Finally, be intentional while you’re with them.  Focus on them.  Don’t think about your other obligations.  Listen and really be in that moment with that person.

When you’ve done all of the above, you should feel good as those interactions are good for the soul.  Enjoy!
